Next, Mr. Martin asked us to choose a tarot card that would inspire the theme of our video. We received Card 5: Your Fear – “The Chariot.” The Chariot tarot card encourages us to take charge of our lives and conquer challenges through willpower & determination.

Story Synopsis
A protagonist of a video game keeps losing to the final boss but doesn’t give up and keep respawning for a rematch until she wins. (Inspiration: Undertale Chara vs Sans) Main character’s goal: Gain dominance and power in the simulation world she lives in.
Week 10 (23/06/25)
This week, we were tasked with test-shooting and editing one VFX effect during class. We had 30 minutes to complete both tasks.

Week 11 (30/06/25)
This week, We worked on creating the storyboard and shot list to streamline our filming process. For the storyboard process, we'd sketch.
We then imported all clips into Premiere Pro for color correction and grading.
VFX Editing in After Effects
We moved into After Effects to apply VFX (compilation of editing sequences):

Through out this whole process, the use of free use green screen graphics and free google images specifically dusts effect, laser effect, and bones effect. Most process are gone through the tutorial videos I listed. Processes would generally be the use of the Roto tool and pen tool.
Premiere Pro Assembly and Color Correction:
Fig 2.26 Premiere Pro Assembly
Due to the amount of VFX, we ended up doing the vfx first, then assembly each of them in premiere pro. Some supporting elements are also taking place in premiere pro, such as audios, color correction and transitions.
Fig 2.27 Colour Correction (Warm)
Fig 2.28 Colour Correction (Cold)
We have 3 Acts in total within the story breakdown, we'd apply a warmer tone which is mainly orange, red and yellow tone around Act 1. As for the 2nd and 3rd act, we'd apply colder tone to create more tense within the scenes as it is consists fighting scenes, which are mostly blue, dark blue tones and occasionally a hint of yellow for some scenes as the highlight.
Week 9: Sir Martin assigned the Tarot card "The Chariot" to us and showed the brief explanation of the meaning.
Week 10: Sir Martin approved of our idea and storyboard, at first we were hesitant if anything inspired from a video game is allowed, which he did allow.
Week 11: We showed sir Martin our shot list and story breakdown, we also showed the clips that we have shot.
Week 12: Session is full for shooting.
Week 13: We took our time assembling our footages, which sir Martin has no much of a comment about but recommend more funky transition for some clips.
Week 14: Sir Martin recommend us to do more vibrant color grading.
REFLECTION
Observation
During the project, I noticed how crucial detailed planning is for a smooth production process. The use of photographic storyboards and shot lists greatly helped visualize the scenes before filming, which made the shooting process more efficient. I also observed the challenges in executing VFX effects, especially with masking and keyframing, where precision was essential for seamless transitions.
Findings
From working with After Effects, I found that small adjustments to mask feathering and opacity can significantly affect the quality of visual effects. Color correction and grading are powerful tools for guiding viewer emotions and emphasizing different parts of the story. I also found that noise reduction and clean audio are essential for maintaining professionalism and audience engagement. Lastly, integrating multiple elements like VFX, color grading, and sound creates a more immersive and polished final product.
Experiences
Personally, the project was a rich learning experience that combined creative and technical skills. The initial difficulty with VFX techniques became easier with practice and trial, which boosted my confidence in using software like After Effects and Premiere Pro. Overall, this project improved my practical skills and deepened my appreciation for multimedia production.
