INSTRUCTIONS

TASK

To proceed from Task 1, we are required to start building our character from our thumbnail sketches.

1.1 Thumbnail sketches from Task 1

Right after, i proposed my chosen outfit with the colour pallette to sir Fitri that consists of red, white and yellow as following, which later will be changed after feedbacks from the lecturer:

 1.2 First colour palette idea

Then, I'd proceed to sketching the poses:

 1.3 Posing sketches

I strike her, the character as confident or a straightforward character, hence the straight posture and a dominant perspective for the posing.

After doing so, I'd proceed to choosing 3 main poses for the future task, which is to decide a splash pose.

 1.4 Chosen pose sketches

After moving on from the sketch, I'd go for the expression, i thought I'd proceed for mask expressions:

 1.5 Masked expression

However after full consideration, I'd do the unmasked version of the character as the main look of the design, which I added:

 1.6 Unmasked expression

Now going back to the clothing design, we are required to do an alternate version of the design, such as a DLC design of our character. I the go for clockwork or a puppet inspired character to still fit the mysterious vibe of the character, inspirations are as following:

 1.7 Moodboard for alternative outfit

Then, I'd proceed with the turnaround drawing:

 1.8 Alternative outfit turnaround

In the intended original design, she has a straight hair, and gold accessories, in this version, i thought to make her have the opposite aka curly hair and have silver accessories, in which I'd imply to the coloring of this design in 3 palettes:

1.9 Applying the colours

Now going back to the original design, I've to decide a colour palette for the character, in which I presented in a more polished drawing that is based on the franchise's art style:

1.10 3 Colour Palettes

Proceeding to the final part, the prop itself, I'd provided 5 different designs:

1.11 Various coffin designs

I then choose one of the designs then made a turnaround of the sketch:
1.12 Prop turnaround

I then also made a sketch of the character's mask, the rough sketches are as following:

1.13 Rough sketch of mask

Then I'd refined the lining of the mask:

1.14 Refined Mask

After completing the steps of character design, I then proceed back to the chosen pose and make a rendered version of the posed character.

1.15 Posed character rendering

FINAL OUTCOME

FEEDBACK

Specific feedback: For Task 2, Sir Fitri heavily suggested for me to change the colour palette of my character because he thought it would be too bright or 'cheesy' for a regal looking character, which i came up with more muted and calm colour palettes for both the original design and the alternative.

REFLECTION

During this task, I had fun building up my character but I had the most struggle during this stage of throughout the whole assignment which I've overcome later. I wasn't very confident with the design with my limited timing so I had to decrease some accessories I planned during the first Task. But it is an experience to design a character to make the details stand out which is usually a hard thing to do for me but i have a good attempt for this assignment which taught me various things.
