REFLECTION
Experience
Throughout the semester, I experienced the full process of designing a typeface from start to finish. In the beginning, it felt a bit overwhelming because I had never created a font before. But step by step, I learned how to research, sketch ideas, build letterforms, and refine them into a working typeface. The most challenging part was making sure everything was consistent, but it was also the most satisfying. The final task, where I applied the font in mockups and layouts, helped me see how it could be used in real designs.
Observation
As the weeks went on, I noticed that everyone had different styles and approaches. Some focused on display fonts, while others worked on more simple, clean typefaces. This showed me how much variety there is in type design. I also saw how helpful feedback was, small suggestions from classmates or the lecturer made a big difference. It was clear that presentation also plays a big role. Fonts looked much better when they were shown in a clean, simple way that let the letters speak for themselves.
Findings
One important thing I discovered is that designing a font is not just about how it looks, but how it works. A font needs to be readable, balanced, and flexible for different uses. I also realized that even a simple-looking font takes a lot of work and testing. Planning ahead with a clear theme or purpose made the design process smoother. Overall, I learned that type design is a mix of creativity and precision, and it takes both to create something useful and meaningful.
