LECTURES
• VISUAL ANALYSIS
- A technique for understanding design by focusing on visual elements and principles.
- Aims to identify the designer's choices and how the design conveys ideas, content, or meaning.
- Develops skills for critically interpreting and analyzing images .
• OBSERVATION
- Carefully examine and identify the visual elements of a design.
- Avoid reading about the design before hand.
-Observe, reflect, and articulate your findings effectively.
•ANALYSIS
- Use your observations to form evidence-based statements.
-Identify design principles within the artwork/design and their impact on the viewer.
•INTERPRETATION
-Combine observation, analysis, and factual information about the design, designer, and historical context as well as determining the design's meaning and purpose.
INSTRUCTIONS
TASK 2
RECAP
In Task 2, we need to write a 300-350 word analysis of the selected artwork from Task 1. This will be followed by three improvement suggestions, each accompanied by a 30-50 word rationale and supported with visual references.
Give A Man A Mask & He'll Become His True Self (2016)
Artist name: senfromoz
Size: 80cm x 100cm
Medium: Digital
• Observation
To start with the format of this digital artwork is portrait. The illustration starts with a straightforward graphic aka with green eyes wearing a white mask which is illustrated in the center of the portrait as it is a main focus, then the text below " Give A Man A Mask and He Will Become His True Self" as the main meaning of the artwork. The colors of this artwork are composed of three colors, red, white and black, which creates a riot and very strong energy coming from the artwork. This artwork is also drawn with a heavy and thick lineart to further illustrate the energy of this artwork. (109)
•Analysis
This artwork is heavily illustrated with the composition of balance, where the face of the illustrated character is front faced, both hands are shown left and right. The use of contrast is also heavily implemented where the colors are chosen and vibrant enough to give a strong vibe to the artwork, the color red is usually used to illustrate riot and violence, with the level of vibrance happening it has perfectly illustrated the dramatic energy of the artwork with the background as a plain red background, the midground as the drawing of the character and the foreground as the text. The typography chosen for the texts is also stylized and cartoonish to give a further fun and chaotic vibe to this digital work. (123)
• Interpretation
After analyzing the overall composition, color theory, art style, overall composition and individual elements of the artwork, followed by the simple composition with color colors, This chaotic vibe is fitting, as it reflects the spirit of the game it is based on an experience that resonates with many, including myself, where players are drawn into a world that is unpredictable, filled with action, and full of excitement. Ultimately, the artwork captures the essence of the game, transforming its dynamic nature into a visual narrative that invites anyone familiar with the game to connect with it deeper. (96)

SKETCH
• Sketch 1
In this sketch I made, I'm focusing on the objects such as the mask that the character is holding and the texts/quote as the main emphasis here. I played with the perspective where it appears from the lower angle instead of eye level angle which helps a lot emphasize the objects I want to point out.
In this sketch I made, I'm focusing on the subject or character itself as the main focus, where I heavily implement a perspective from an upper angle. Since this is devoted heavily to the character, I made the character look more visible and clear and with the help of the perspective, it popped up to emphasize it even more.
Week 4
General: Mr. Vinod gives feedback regarding our blogger progress
Specific: Mr. Vinod shares his thoughts on my blogger on my observation, interpretation and analysis on the artwork I chose before proceeding to the sketch.
Week 5
General: Mr. Vinod gives feedback on our sketches in this session.
Specific: I've provided 2 sketches for Mr. Vinod to have an opinion on, and my first sketch seemed to be more fitting for me to proceed.
REFLECTION
Experience
Starting to the next 2 weeks to this module, we're introduced to this assignment, whereas we are starting to deepen more into the use of design principle, we are not only analyzing but also making a sketch to point out one design principle to another to improve an artwork. With this, I can totally see the improvement, the change to how much better and interesting an artwork would result.
Observation
Entering the part where we have to have a keen observation into this topic specifically, I learned that each principle plays its role well without clashing with the artwork. The more I deepen into it, the more I learn the importance of these principles, it's very crucial to the elements and the nature of an artwork can illustrate itself. Such as one of the design principles I researched the most about, contrast plays a heavy role in color theory, it can be a very vibrant or a soft color, that alone can change the vibe of a whole artwork.
Findings
After discovering and gaining further knowledge about design principles, it taught me a lot how a single principle plays a crucial role in an artwork, it pushed me on how to improve my artworks, to make it more visually appealing.
